Jesuit, Shaw, St. Charles Catholic, Lakeshore win on final day of baseball regular season

Area Prep Baseball Report for Sunday, April 25

Jesuit edged Vandebilt Catholic 3-2 at John Ryan Stadium.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Jesuit broke a scoreless tie as Tripp Haddad and Holden Hess singled and Cameron Desroches delivered Hadded with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Blue Jays.

The Terriers tied it with a run in the top of the fifth before Jesuit took a 2-1 lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth on a double by Haddad, a single by Desroches and an RBI single by Luke Brandau.

Sean Cashman pitched the first six innings, allowing just one run. Ryan Porche came on in the seventh inning and gave up the tying run to Vandebilt Catholic.

In the bottom of the seventh, Collin Loupe walked before Giovanni Licciardi singled, moving Loupe to third base. Zack Casebonne produced the game-winner with an excellent safety squeeze bunt, scoring Loupe to make a winner out of Porche.

Jesuit (27-6) is likely to be the second seed, behind only Byrd in the Division I power ratings.

Vandebilt Catholic (25-6) is expected to be the third seed in Division III.

At Winterscheidt Stadium, Archbishop Shaw scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on to defeat St. Augustine 4-3.

The Purple Knights (14-16) scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh but fell just short.

Logan Pulliam pitched a complete game, scattering nine hits with three strikeouts for the win. Trey Parks drove in a run for the Eagles (15-18).

Kabrel Johnson had three hits and two RBI for the Purple Knights while Kenya Huggins and Genesis Prosper each had two hits.

Despite the loss, St. Augustine is likely to hold the ninth spot in the Division I playoffs, just ahead of Shaw.

At LaPlace, St. Charles Catholic continued to sizzle, drubbing Thibodaux 10-0 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

The Comets scored two runs in the bottom of the second, two in the third, five runs in the fourth and a final run in the fifth inning to end it.

Austin St. Pierre had two hits and two RBI while Brandon Kragle and Josh Tamplain each drove in a pair of runs for St. Charles Catholic.

Thomas LaGraize and Bryan Gros had the two hits for the Tigers.

St. Charles Catholic (20-9-1) ends its season on a 10-game win streak. The Comets are likely to receive the second seed in Division III with their great close to the season, behind only Notre Dame.

Thibodaux (18-12) is on the inside looking out at the Class 5A playoffs.

Lakeshore went on the road and drilled Covington 13-2 in a non-district game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

Dominick Letort picked up the win, going all five innings, allowing six hits with one strikeout. Letort helped himself with a two-run single while Tyler Steed drove in three runs for the Titans. Eli Lirette added a pair of RBI.

Ben Fernandez led Covington with a pair of hits. Mason Estrada took the loss.

The Titans (17-11) closed the regular season on a five-game win streak. Lakeshore is likely to be seeded between fourth and sixth in the Class 4A state playoffs.

The Lions (19-11) will likely be seeded 23rd in the Class 5A playoffs.
