Jesuit joins Holy Cross in top spots in LHSSCA poll

A pair of prominent local institutions top the latest Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association poll released Monday.

Jesuit has moved into the top spot in Division I. The Blue Jays (9-0-5) received seven first-place votes to supplant Catholic of Baton Rouge, now second. The Bears received two first-place votes. St. Paul’s is third with St. Amant fourth and Alexandria fifth. Archbishop Rummel is eighth with Mandeville tenth. Jesuit and St. Paul’s have played to a pair of 1-1 ties this season.

In Division II, four-time defending state champion Holy Cross (6-3) remains on top, receiving seven first-place votes. Ben Franklin is second with St. Thomas More third. East Jefferson is fourth with Caddo Magnet fifth. Bonnabel is tied for sixth.

Vandebilt Catholic (12-3-1)is the unanimous top-ranked team in Division III. The Terriers have won eight straight matches. Defending state champion Lusher Charter second. University High is third with Bossier fourth and Archbishop Hannan fifth. New Orleans Military & Maritime is eighth.

Episcopal (6-2-1) is No. 1 in Division IV, receiving seven first-place votes. The Knights have won six straight matches. Pope John Paul II is second with Northlake Christian third. Episcopal of Acadiana is fourth with Newman fifth. Country Day is sixth while St. Thomas Aquinas is eighth.
