Jesuit, John Curtis, Covington win on mat Wednesday
In an outstanding matchup of two of the best teams in the state in any classification, Jesuit held off Archbishop Shaw 36-29 Wednesday evening.
The Blue Jays won eight of the 13 matches contested.
Winning by pin for Jesuit were Chase Haydel (120), Luc Columb (138), Jackson Ballay (145), Dennis Dougherty (220) and Spencer Lanosga (285).
Scoring a fall for the Eagles was Kobe Nguyen (113).
Both teams, respectively, are ranked second in their respective classes heading into the state tournament in Baton Rouge next weekend with Jesuit second in Division I, behind Brother Martin, and Shaw second in Division II, behind Teurlings Catholic.
John Curtis Christian tuned up for the state tournament, just over a week away, with a 72-6 dual win over Thomas Jefferson Wednesday night.
There were only four matches contested and the Patriots won three.
Scoring falls for John Curtis were Preston Curtis (132), Sean King (145) and Joshua Eames (170).
Winning by pin for the Jaguars was Carlos Flores (182).
Covington downed Riverdale 60-18.
The Lions won seven of eight matches contested.
Recording falls for Covington were Timothy Marquette (126), Ryan Cooper (132), Austin Boudreaux (145), Sean Marquette (152), Anthony Hernandez (160), Christian Dutsch (182) and Dylan Talley (195).
Winning by pin for Riverdale was Keith Marshall (138).
Covington also defeated Lakeshore 46-27.
The Lions won seven of nine matches.
Winning by pin for Covington were Owen Wall (113), Timothy Marquette (126), Cooper (132), Landen Carroll (160), Dutsch (170) and Talley (182).
Scoring a pin for the Titans was Kade Miller (138).
