Jesuit enters top 10 while No. 1 teams remain atop CCS football rankings

The only loss for Jesuit was a three-overtime thriller to unbeaten Brother Martin.

The Blue Jays followed that loss with impressive wins over Holy Cross, St. Augustine and perennial power John Curtis Christian.

As a result, Jesuit has entered the Crescent City Sports Top 10 rankings in Class 5A for Week 8 at No. 9.

Unbeaten Catholic of Baton Rouge remains the clear top-ranked team with unbeatens Zachary, Brother Martin, Ponchatoula and Captain Shreve completing the top five. Acadiana is now sixth with unbeaten Destrehan seventh. Ruston is No. 8, followed by Jesuit and West Monroe.

Karr holds steady at No. 1 in Class 4A with Neville second. Carencro is up to third with Warren Easton now fourth and unbeaten Huntington up to fifth. Unbeaten Liberty is sixth with Salmen moving up to seventh. Westgate falls to eighth, Carver drops to ninth and St. Thomas More is back in at No. 10 after a big win over Teurlings Catholic.

University High solidified the top spot in Class 3A with a big win over defending 3A state champion Madison Prep. Unbeaten Sterlington is up to second with Madison Prep falling to third. Unbeaten E.D. White Catholic is fourth with unbeaten Church Point fifth. Unbeaten Iowa is sixth with unbeaten Lutcher seventh, ahead of a showdown with E.D. White. St. James is eighth with De La Salle ninth and Lake Charles College Prep at No. 10.

St. Charles Catholic remains the top-ranked team in 2A after a thrilling, last-minute win over Newman with four-time defending state champion Lafayette Christian a very strong second. Defending 2A state titlist Many is third. Unbeaten Amite is fourth and Newman falls to fifth. Unbeatens Loreauville and General Trass are next with unbeaten Episcopal in at No. 8. Notre Dame falls to ninth and Mangham is 10th.

Unbeaten Ouachita Christian stays on top in Class 1A with defending state champion Calvary Baptist second. Oak Grove is third with Southern Lab fourth and Ascension Catholic fifth. Opelousas Catholic is sixth with St. Mary’s up to seventh. Sacred Heart is now eighth with Grand Lake and Westminster Christian dropping to ninth and 10th, respectively, after losses.
