Jesuit, Brother Martin boys; MCA, STA girls high in state cross country rankings

A week away from the LHSAA Cross Country championships at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, four area teams rank at the top or near the top of the statewide rankings of the Louisiana Track & Field Cross Country poll released Monday.

In large school boys rankings, Jesuit remains on top in unanimous fashion with Brother Martin second. Catholic of Baton Rouge is third with Ruston fourth and Parkview Baptist is fifth. Holy Cross is eighth with Belle Chasse tenth.

In the large school girls rankings, St. Joseph’s Academy is the top-ranked team in unanimous fashion with Ruston second. Mount Carmel Academy is ranked third. Vandebilt Catholic is fourth with Dominican fifth. St. Scholastica is eighth.

In the small school boys rankings, Episcopal occupies the top spot with eight first-place votes while Parkview Baptist is second with the other two first-place votes. University Lab is third with St. Michael fourth and D’Arbonne Woods fifth. Newman is eighth with St. Martin’s Episcopal tenth.

In the girls small school rankings, Episcopal is the unanimous top-ranked team with E.D. White Catholic second. St. Thomas Aquinas is third with ARCA fourth and Newman fifth. Country Day is sixth with St. Martin’s Episcopal eighth.
