SAN ANTONIO — Xavier University of Louisiana softball was eliminated from the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament as the result of a 10-1 loss Saturday to Texas A&M-San Antonio.

The Gold Nuggets, in their second season of intercollegiate competition, finished 21-30 overall and 0-2 in the tournament as the seventh seed.

It was the second straight day that XULA lost 10-1 in a tournament game shortened to 4 1/2 innings because of the eight-run rule. The Gold Nuggets’ only run was in the fourth inning, when Mecolett Bradley doubled down the left-field line to score Madison Winston, who led off with a bunt single.

The Jaguars, 22-29 and seeded sixth, scored three runs apiece in the first and fourth innings and four in the third. Julia Pinson’s two-run homer with one out in the first started the scoring.

The Jaguars’ Vanessa Garces was 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Ebbie Rodriguez pitched the complete-game victory and retired XULA in order in the first, third and fifth innings.

XULA had four hits. Chenai Keyes was 2-for-2.
