FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team earned two weekly honors for its performance at the LSU Battle on the Bayou as Kristian Jackson was named the Southland Conference’s Women’s Field Athlete of the Week while Omri Shiff was tabbed the conference’s Men’s Track Athlete of the Week Wednesday by the SLC office.

Jackson, a graduate throws competitor from Zachary, La., took home two medals from the Battle on the Bayou. In the shot put, she won a bronze medal as she launched a personal best 15.42m (50’7.25”). That throw is currently the best shot put toss in the Southland Conference, ninth best in the South-Central region, and tied for the 43rd best shot put toss in all of Division I.

She followed that up with a gold medal-winning performance in the discus with a toss of 51.24m (168’1”). That discus throw is also the best in the Southland this outdoor season, third-best in the South-Central region, and 45th-longest in all of Division I. A two-time Southland Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week in 2022, this is Jackson’s first award in outdoor in 2023.

Shiff, a sophomore hurdler from Hod Hasharon, Israel, took home a gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the Battle on the Bayou as he became one of just six Division I athletes to finish the discipline with a sub-51 second time this year, breaking the tape at 50.81 seconds. That time is currently the best in the Southland Conference by almost 1.5 seconds while also serving as the best time in the South-Central region. It’s currently the fifth-fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles in all of Division I, trailing the nation’s best time in the discipline by 0.55 seconds. This is Shiff’s first career Southland Conference Athlete of the Week award.

The Lions are now in Austin, Texas to compete in the 95th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, which start Wednesday at the Mike A. Myers Stadium, home to the 2023 NCAA Outdoor National Championships as well. The first Southeastern athletes to compete in the event will start on Thursday.
