NEW ORLEANS – Episode two of Inside #NOLAsTeam presented by Ochsner airs Tuesday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. on Cox Sports Television. Inside #NOLAsTeam is a TV show highlighting the stories and personalities on the Lakefront.

Inside #NOLAsTeam is a joint effort between New Orleans Athletics’ Privateers Sports Network and Bayou Video Productions. Executive producers are Julie Boudwin, Owner of Bayou Video Productions, Kelvin Queliz, Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Communications and Steve Stroud, Deputy Athletic Director, Chief Development and Revenue Officer.

SECOND EPISODE
Legendary men’s basketball coach Tim Floyd led the Privateers to two NCAA tournaments, three NIT bids and won four conference titles in six seasons. Earlier this year, Floyd was inducted into the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame. Watch Inside #NOLAsTeam as coach Floyd reminisced on his time on the Lakefront, coach Ron Maestri talked about why he hired Tim Floyd from UTEP and Idaho, McDonalds All-American Melvin Simon joined and detailed his decision to remain home and NBA veteran Ervin Johnson told his story on joining the Privateers and his time with coach Floyd. Johnson’s story is well documented as he went from bagging groceries to dominating the Sun Belt en route to an NBA career.

Claudette Gilhespie was traveling with the women’s tennis team a few years ago when suddenly, she was rushed to the hospital. Gilhespie had a stroke and was initially told she would never return to the court again. Gilhespie recovered and turned in 7-3 singles and 5-1 doubles marks this year before her season was shut down due to COVID-19. She opted in to return to the Lakefront in the Spring as a graduate student. Hear from Claudette, her father Mark Gilhespie, sister Nikki Gilhespie, assistant athletic trainer, Ochsner’s Keshia Williams, head coach Burzis Kanga and assistant coach Amber Garza.

The worldwide pandemic that is COVID-19 hit home for most of our international student-athletes. Some chose to remain in the states, while others rushed home and were forced to remain in a country-wide lockdown. Hear from several of our international student-athletes on their experiences, including Arina Kleshchukova, Thomas Artigas, Lea Alguacil, Ank Vullings, Lucie Pokorna and more.

Jorge Tejeda walked into the clubhouse at Maestri Field in a suit celebrating as he became a citizen of the United States (READ MORE HERE: https://unoprivateers.com/news/2020/7/4/baseball-jorge-tejeda-looks-forward-to-the-future.aspx). It turned out to be the final game of the season as COVID-19 canceled the remainder of the 2020 campaign, however, Tejeda kept a positive outlook as he detailed his family’s journey from Cuba to the U.S. Hear from Tejeda, teammate Cristian Poche, head coach Blake Dean, pitching coach A.J. Battisto, hitting coach/recruiting coordinator Brett Stewart, and immigration attorney and managing partner Vanessa Caicedo of Caicedo and Queliz, LLC.
