DALLAS – Louisiana Tech third baseman Hunter Wells was named the Conference USA’s Co-Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Wells played a pivotal role all weekend long as the Bulldogs captured their first division title since 1992. Wells, one of LA Tech’s six 2020 seniors who returned for their extra season of eligibility, went 10-for-18 (.556) with two doubles, one home run, seven runs scored and five RBI in a 3-2 week for the Diamond Dogs.

The Katy, Texas native tallied at least one base hit in all five of his games this past week, capping off the weekend with a 2-for-4 performance with a double, home run, three runs scored and a team-high four RBI as the Bulldogs run ruled UTSA 17-7 in seven innings. Wells’ final swing of the series clinched the series win over the Roadrunners and the C-USA West Division title as his slicing drive to right field stayed fair for a two-RBI double.

Wells boosted his batting average 18 points over the week to sit atop Conference USA with a .369 batting average at the end of the conference season. The C-USA’s leader in base hits also drew six walks, helping him reach base at a .667 clip this past week.

The third baseman leads the Bulldogs with 23 multi-hit games in 2021 and moved into second place all-time with 254 hits across his Bulldog career following Sunday’s game.

Louisiana Tech has had five different student-athletes earn C-USA weekly honors in 2021. Starting pitchers Jarret Whorff and Jonathan Fincher have earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week accolades, while Wells, Manny Garcia and Steele Netterville earned C-USA Hitter of the Week honors earlier this season.
