HOUSTON – Houston Christian University President Dr. Robert Sloan announced the name change of the school from the former “Houston Baptist University” to “Houston Christian University” Wednesday afternoon to the faculty and staff forum.

The athletics programs will be referred to as “HCU” in all official department printed materials – traditional and digital – effective immediately. “Houston Christian University” is acceptable on first reference, but would prefer “HCU” or “Huskies” on all subsequent references. The new URL for the official website is “HCUHuskies.com” and the official Twitter handle is “HCUAthletics”.

HCU will continue to use the same logo attached here – the Husky head without any wordmark and will be working with Carnegie during the rebranding process to secure new marks. The athletic programs will use their current uniforms, even with “HBU” marks, until a new set of marks is available and new uniforms are unveiled. The Husky mascot and the blue and orange color scheme will not change.
