Kevin Gausman

Here are the final season pitching and hitting statistics for many of the 2023 major-league and minor-league players who prepped or played collegiately in the New Orleans area and Southeast Louisiana. All stats are cumulative for the season, through Sunday, October 1. Below are some of the highlights for the last month.

Kevin Gausman (LSU) led the American League in strikeouts (237) and strikeouts per 9 innings (11.5).

After spending practically the entire season on the Injured List, Tanner Rainey (St. Paul’s, Southeastern) made an appearance on September 30 with the Washington Nationals.

Ian Gibaut (Tulane) tied for second in pitching appearances (74) in the National League. His 138 ERA+ was the highest among the hometown hero pitchers.

Alex Bregman (LSU) led the hometown hero batters with a 122 OPS+.

After slashing .317/.395/.522 at the Triple-A level, Andrew Stevenson (LSU) got called up by the Nationals in September, his first major-league appearance since 2021.

Paul Gervase (LSU) finished the season with an impressive 15.2 strikeouts per 9 innings.

Hometown heroes in the upcoming MLB playoffs include Alex Bregman (LSU) and J. P. France (Shaw HS, Tulane) with the Astros; Kevin Gausman (LSU) with the Blue Jays; Wade Miley (Loranger HS, Southeastern) with the Brewers; Aaron Nola (LSU) with the Phillies; and Josh Smith (LSU) with the Rangers.
