Here’s the first monthly report of pitching and hitting stats for many of the 2022 major-league and minor-league players who prepped or played collegiately in the New Orleans area and southeast Louisiana. All stats are cumulative for the season, through Sunday May 1. Below are some of the highlights from April.

With his new Toronto Blue Jays team, Kevin Gausman (LSU) is off to a fantastic start. He has a 2.27 ERA, with 41 strikeouts and no walks in 31.2 innings. With those types of numbers, he’ll contend for the Cy Young Award again. He finished sixth in the National League voting last year.

Nationals pitcher Tanner Rainey (Southeastern) has yet to yield an earned run in seven appearances.

Andrew Stevenson (LSU) already has eight stolen bases for Triple-A Rochester.

Hudson Haskin (Tulane) has been hitting on all cylinders for Double-A Bowie. He boasts a slash line of .345/.448/1.103. He has four home runs and 14 RBIs.

Collin Burns (Tulane) has seven multiple-hit games in his 18 games for the season. His slash line is an impressive .353/.421/.852 for High-A Aberdeen.

Braden Olthoff (Tulane) had a stellar outing on April 26 for High-A Tri-City. He gave up two hits and no runs in seven innings pitched, while striking out eight.

Players with new teams in 2022 include Kevin Gausman (Blue Jays), Ian Gibaut (Guardians), Jake Fraley (Reds), and Aaron Loup (Angels).

Players who started the 2022 season on the Injured List include Will Harris (LSU), Wade Miley (Loranger HS, Southeastern), Jake Rogers (Tulane), Mac Scolerer (Denham Springs HS, Southeastern), Todd Peterson (LSU), Connor Pellerin (Tulane), and Zack Hess (LSU).

Players from 2021 who have not returned in 2022 include Kyle Keller (Jesuit HS, Southeastern), Riley Smith (LSU), Mikie Mahtook (LSU), Reeves Martin (UNO), Zack Mathis (LSU), Tate Scioneaux (Riverside HS, Southeastern), Bryan Warzek (UNO), Cody Grosse (UNO), Todd Peterson (LSU), A.J. Labas (LSU), Aaron McKeithan (Tulane), and Ryan Eades (Northshore HS, LSU).
