Andrew Stevenson, Washington Nationals
Andrew Stevenson made a fast rise through the Nationals minor league system to help the big club.

With the minor league season now over, the focus shifts to major league players for the rest of the season. Many are involved in pennant races and possible postseason play to come.

Former Centenary hurler James Hoyt was recalled from Triple A Fresno by the Houston Astros on Sept. 6. Hoyt has been a swing and miss pitcher for Houston this season, striking out 62 batters in 44 2/3 innings pitched.

Former St. Thomas More and LSU speedster Andrew Stevenson was recalled by Washington from Triple-A Syracuse on Sept. 7. He had been with the Nationals for a couple of months previously.

After going through a slump, former LSU pitcher Jason Vargas pitched well in an 11-3 victory over Minnesota on Sept. 10. Vargas went five innings, allowing just one run on four hits, striking out three for his 15th win of the season.

Former LSU star D.J. LeMahieu has hit in 19 of his last 20 games for the Colorado Rockies. He had a 16-game his streak snapped on Sept. 9 but he is still batting .316 with 28 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 60 RBI.

Former Neville standout Alex Presley has a five-game hit streak (8-for-21/.381) and has hit in 12 of his last 13 games for the Detroit Tigers to raise his average to .313 with eight doubles, two triples, one home run and 14 RBI.
