Holy Cross, St. Scholastica, E.D. White, Pope John Paul II win state swim titles
New Orleans area teams found success this weekend at the LHSAA state swimming championships in Sulphur.
Holy Cross, St. Scholastica, E.D. White Catholic and Pope John Paul II each captured state titles.
In the boys Division I competition, Catholic of Baton Rouge took home the title with Jesuit finishing second.
In Division II, Holy Cross won its sixth straight title while St. Scholastica continued its dominance, capturing its 13th straight championship.
In Division III, it was a clean sweep for E.D. White Catholic as the Cardinals won both the boys and girls state titles.
In Division IV, Pope John Paul II captured the boys championship while Episcopal School of Acadiana won the girls title.
Outstanding individual performances were turned in by Kendall Jollands of Dominican, named the Most Outstanding Performer in the girls Division I competition while Enzo Solitario of Jesuit captured the same honor on the Division I boys side. Calix Hammett of Archbishop Rummel won the Most Outstanding Performer in the boys Division II competition.
Jollands won the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke competition while Solario won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. Dominican and Jesuit each finished second in Division I with Dominican just one point behind champion St. Joseph’s Academy while Catholic of Baton Rouge won the boys Division I title.
Hammett, who recently signed with Kentucky, won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle races.
The Willow School girls and the Lakeshore boys finished second in Division II.
St. Charles Catholic finished second in the boys Division III team race.
