Holy Cross boys, SSA girls win state swimming titles

The Holy Cross boys and St. Scholastica girls each claimed state championships Saturday at the LHSAA Swimming championships in Sulphur.

The Tigers easily outdistanced Ruston for the Division II title with Lakeshore third, Patrick Taylor fourth and South Lafourche fifth.

Carson Doll won the 200 meter and 500 meter freestyle while Maximilin Caffrey won the 100 meter butterfly and Holy Cross won the 400 meter freestyle relay to capture the crown.

Riley Brown of Lee High was the Swimmer of the Meet in Division II.

Catholic High of Baton Rouge claimed the Division I boys title for the sixth time in 10 years with Jesuit finishing second after winning the championship in 2017 and 2018. St. Paul’s was third with Mandeville fourth and Northshore fifth.
Michael Bonson of Northshore was Swimmer of the Meet after winning the 200 meter and 500 meter freestyle.

St. Scholastica continued its dominance in the girls Division II competition, winning its ninth straight team state championship. St. Thomas More was second and Academy of the Sacred Heart of New Orleans third. Caddo Magnet was fourth with Ben Franklin fifth.

Gabriella O’Neil of the Doves won the 200 and 500 meter freestyle while Claudia Oggs won the 100 breaststroke. St. Scholastica also won the 200 and 400 meter freestyle relays.

O’Neil was named the Swimmer of the Meet.

St. Joseph’s Academy captured the girls Division I title. Mandeville was second with Mount Carmel Academy third. Northshore finished fourth and Dominican was fifth. Emily Schexnayder of Mount Carmel won the 100 meter freestyle and the 100 meter butterfly.

Anni Thompson of Lafayette was named Swimmer of the Meet. Here are results from the LHSAA state swim championships Saturday:
