After originally believing that his program would be shut down until April 9 due to a positive COVID-19 test for one of his players, Holy Cross coach Andy Cannizaro said Tuesday that his Tigers can now resume playing on April 5, instead, after conferring with the LHSAA.

That means Holy Cross can now play its regularly scheduled game with Archbishop Rummel on Tuesday, April 6 at 6 p.m. at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium and can host the Raiders on April 8 at 4 p.m. at Tiger Park.

The Tigers will still have to reschedule games with Archbishop Shaw, originally set for tonight, and two games with St. Augustine (April 1 and April 3) but will only have to reschedule three games, as opposed to five.

“We found a playing date with Shaw and two with St. Aug,” Cannizaro said. “We will play St. Augustine at Wesley Barrow Stadium on April 12 at 6:30 p.m. We will face Shaw April 17 at Tiger Park at 6:30 p.m. and we will face St. Augustine on April at 6:30 at Tiger Park.”

Cannizaro is thankful to be able to resume sooner than expected and is thankful for his peers in the league for working with him to get games in.

“This is a relief,” Cannizaro said. “Had we had to play six district games in six days, which we would have done, it would have been extremely difficult, particularly for out pitching. It will still be a ton of games in a short time but it will not be as bad as it would have been. I’m very thankful to Doug Faust (Shaw) and Barret Rey (St. Aug) to work with us on rescheduling.”
