Hays, Camp remain part of Louisiana Tech coaching staff

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Cumbie announced today that he is retaining both Brock Hays and Anthony Camp as part of his Bulldog football coaching staff.

Hays will continue to serve as the Bulldog running backs coach while Camp will move to coach the Tech outside linebackers.

“Since I’ve been here there hasn’t been a day that Brock Hays hasn’t had a smile on his face and enthusiasm for Louisiana Tech and his players,” said Cumbie. “It’s easy to see why our players are drawn to Coach Hays. His relationships within this state are evident in how coaches and players respond to him. I’m excited to see how he will continue to develop and lead our running backs.”

Hays returns for his fourth year with the Bulldogs after leading the Bulldog running back room each of the past three seasons. The Grambling State alum has mentored the Tech tailbacks, including all-conference performers in Justin Henderson and Israel Tucker as well as this year’s group that rushed for over 1,500 yards and 16 TDs.

“I am excited to come back and continue to lead this group of young men and have an impact on them,” said Hays. “Getting a chance to work with Coach Cumbie is exciting because it’s a different style of offense that will help continue to develop me as a coach.”

He was a part of Tech’s 2019 Walk-on Independence Bowl team that won 10 games and defeated Miami and the 2020 New Orleans Bowl team.

Hays previous coaching experience included stints at Southern Miss, Nicholls State and Louisiana College as well as time at a couple of New Orleans-based high schools.

Camp will begin his third year with Tech and will move over to coach the outside linebackers after coaching the Bulldogs defensive line the past two seasons.

“I’m very excited that Anthony Camp will be on our staff,” said Cumbie. “His knowledge of football and ability to develop his players on the field sets him apart. He’s been in Louisiana as a coach and as a player, and his passion for this state and the players in it inspires me. I’m excited to be able to work with Anthony and his family to bring success and an exciting brand of football to Louisiana Tech.”

Camp’s work with the Tech D-line the past two years have resulted in some all-conference performers, including current Philadelphia Eagles rookie Milton Williams as well as 2021 C-USA honorable mention honorees in Keivie Rose and Mykol Clark and all-Freshman Team member Ben Bell.

“I am excited to be a part of the new era at Louisiana Tech under Coach Cumbie,” said Camp. “I know we will continue to build upon the many great traditions and winning culture of Bulldog football. My family and I love the Ruston community and can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings.”

Camp – a McNeese State alum – was a member of the 2020 New Orleans Bowl team.

Prior to his time in Ruston, Camp’s coaching experience included stints as a full-time assistant at UL-Monroe and Nicholls State, as well as time at Catholic High School and Parkview Baptist High School in Baton Rouge.
