An early fourth quarter touchdown gave Haynes Academy its first lead of the night. Thereafter, the Yellow Jackets’ defense continued to keep Thomas Jefferson from scoring. At the end, Haynes held on to secure an 18-14 victory over the Jaguars in a District 11-3A clash at Hoss Memtsas Stadium.

Thomas Jefferson had three possessions after Haynes grabbed its lead. The first two ended with a punt. The final drive by the Jaguars began at their 10-yard line. Eight plays later at the Haynes 24, a fourth down pass attempt fell incomplete with 37 seconds remaining in the game.

Taking over on downs, Haynes used one kneel down to run out the clock.

Following a fumble recovery at the Jaguars 49, the Jackets (3-2, 1-1) put together a nine play drive. Ari Currera’s 20-yard touchdown run with 11:07 remaining in the fourth pushed Haynes towards its victory.

Currera scored his first touchdown of the game with a 46-yard touchdown run, at the 5:21 mark of the second quarter, as the deficit fell to 14-12.

Earlier in the second, Preston Brown opened the scoring for Haynes with a 33-yard touchdown run.
