Prep Volleyball Playoff Report for Friday, Nov. 3

A pair of local top seeds, a second-seed and a third-seed were among the LHSAA prep volleyball playoff winners Thursday.

Meanwhile, In Division I bi-district playoff action, No. 27 seed Northshore went on the road and upset No. 6 Chalmette in a 5-set thriller, 19-25, 27-25, 16-25, 27-25, 25-1.

Mariah Hammond led the Panthers with 15 kills, Mallory Schaff had 12 kills and Laynie Guilbeau finished with 10 kills. Emily Martin had 49 assists, Emily Martin had 33 digs and Gracie Schaff contributed 29 digs. Grace Chawki has five blocks.

Northshore (14-22) advances to the regional round to play at No. 11 Archbishop Chapelle Saturday at 11 a.m. The Chipmunks swept No. 22 Destrehan in three sets Wednesday.

In Division II, second-seeded Ben Franklin advanced with a 25-8, 25-11, 25-8 home victory over No. 31 Ouachita Parish Thursday in bi-district playoff action.

Aubray Muirhead led the Falcons with 11 kills and four blocks, Cori Stars produced eight kills with a .400 hitting percentage, Annika Roberson had seven kills and Lilly Mayes finished with 11 digs.

Ben Franklin (34-7) advances to entertain District 8-II rival and No. 18 seed Warren Easton Saturday at 11:30 p.m. in regional round play. The Eagles upset No. 15 David Thibodaux in five sets Wednesday. The Falcons defeated Warren Easton in straight sets on Oct. 24 in district play.

No. 6 Academy of Our Lady downed No. 27 South Terrebonne 25-13, 25-14, 25-9 at home.

Lillian Davis had 15 kills while Abby Cao had 27 assists and served three aces. Ella Treadway finished with 11 digs and Cassidy Jones had four blocks.

The Penguins (26-9) advance to host No. 11 West Ouachita Saturday at 11 a.m. The Chiefs eliminated No. 22 Carver 25-27, 25-19, 28-26, 25-23.

In Division III, top-seed Archbishop Hannan advanced to the quarterfinals in Lafayette with a 25-15, 25-11, 25-11 win over No. 16 Dunham at home Thursday.

Sophia Bonnnafee led the attack with 19 kills and served three aces while Mia Phillips had eight kills. Sarah Kirsch had 31 assists and three aces and Miranda Holincheck had nine digs and four aces.

The Hawks (38-2) will battle No. 8 Haynes Academy at the Cajundome.

The Yellow Jackets (28-11) advanced with a 25-18, 22-25, 25-11, 27-25 victory over No. 9 Iota in Metairie.

Virgina Voitier was a force with 20 kills, 16 digs and four blocks while Marilyn Voitier was potent as well with 20 kills and 10 digs. Skye Lewis had 12 kills and seven blocks, Isabella Granados had 24 assists, 13 digs, four kills and two aces and Ella Feeham finished with 13 digs and two aces.

Hannan defeated Haynes 25-14, 25-15 on Oct. 7 in the Chalmette tournament.

In Division IV regional round action, No. 3 Northlake Christian defeated District 5-IV rival and No. 19 seed Pine 25-6, 25-5, 25-7.

Abby Bailey had 12 kills, Evie Burns had 10 kills and Lily Boogaerts had five kills. Rylie Kuyper had four kills and 13 digs, Abigail Drury finished with as assists, eight digs and four aces and Abigail White had nine assists and four digs.

The Wolverines (32-7) advance to the quarterfinals in Lafayette to take on the winner of No. 6 Pope John Paul II and No. 11 Many, who square off today at 4:30 p.m.

In Division V regional round play, seven-time defending state champion and top seed Country Day downed No. 16 Highland Baptist 25-11, 25-12, 25-18 at home.

Lia Beverly led the Cajuns with 10 kills, Jane Gambel had seven kills and Selina Henderson finished with three aces.

Country Day (24-9) move into the quarterfinals next week to face the winner of today’s matchup featuring No. 8 Crescent City Christian at home against No. 9 Episcopal of Acadiana.
