The Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA baseball state playoffs open today with seven area teams in action, including some familiar foes.

In Class 5A, No. 24 Hahnville (13-17) heads back to No. 9 Live Oak (23-10) at 5:30 p.m.

Live Oak edged the Tigers 6-5 on March 25 at home. Kade Dupont, the outstanding closer for Live Oak, picked up the save in a closely contested game.

District 6-5A rivals collide for a third time when No. 22 Ponchatoula (17-14) heads back to No. 11 Northshore (20-9) at 6:30 p.m. The Panthers swept the season series, winning by scores of 3-0 and 6-3.

In 4A, No. 24 Belle Chasse (14-16) plays at No. 9 Salmen (15-12) at 4 p.m. The Spartans have won four straight games and played one of the toughest schedules in the state in 4A. The Cardinals lost their last two games of the regular season.

In 3A, District 7-3A rivals meet for a third time when No. 27 Jewel Sumner (15-13) heads back to No. 6 Loranger (19-12) for a 6 p.m. contest. The Wolves won both district matchups easily by scores of 12-1 and 14-0 but the Cowboys enter the playoffs on a four-game win streak.
