Green Wave women fall to Boston College in the Puerto Rico Clasico, 89-76

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico– The Tulane University women’s basketball team fell to Boston College, 89-76, in the Puerto Rico Clasico.

Tulane (3-4) outshot Boston College (5-3) .421-.313 from three, but the Eagles held a .586-.482 advantage from the floor. The Green Wave dished out 14 assists and grabbed 24 rebounds, while Boston College logged 13 assists and 30 rebounds. Senior Kayla Manuirirangi led the Green Wave with 15 points, while junior Krystal Freeman grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Freeman scored 11 points.

“I give a lot of credit to Boston College,” Green Wave head coach Lisa Stockton said. “I thought they came out really aggressive and shooting the ball so well. For us, I don’t think we matched their energy in the first half. In the second half, we picked it up. I thought we did a nice job and we beat them by 14 points in the second half, we just fell behind too far.”

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead and went up 32-14 after the first quarter. Boston College held a 53-28 lead at the half. Tulane cut Boston College’s lead to 15 points with a 13-4 run in the fourth quarter but was unable to get closer until the final minute.

The Green Wave scored 56 bench points and 32 points in the paint. Freshman Salma Bates led the team with three assists and added nine points off the bench, while sophomore Dynah Jones logged 12 points.

Cameron Swartz led Boston College with 27 points.

Up next, the Green Wave will take on Charlotte on Friday, Nov. 29, in each team’s second game of the Puerto Rico Clasico.
