COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Jacobi Bain, VanDer Woody and Nereo Suarez won titles Saturday for Xavier University of Louisiana men’s tennis in the HBCU National Championships at South Fulton Tennis Center.

Bain, a sophomore, and Woody, a freshman, won the A doubles bracket with a 6-3 victory against Alabama State’s Ruan Du Preez and Samrakshyak Bajracharya. Bain and Woody, the top-seeded team, won five of the first six games.

“Jacobi is really good,” Woody said. “He gave me a lot of advice that helped me with mental toughness in my first college tournament. We got something started, and I hope it continues.”

XULA also beat Alabama State in the C singles final. Suarez, a freshman, defeated Kristopher Johnson 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4 for that title.

Alabama State won the men’s team title with 30 points. Tennessee State was second with 19 points, and XULA and Alabama A&M tied for third with 17 apiece. Nine men’s teams competed.
