HAWKINS, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana softball will be the No. 8 seed in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament as the result of a Tuesday doubleheader split at Jarvis Christian.

Vannity Robles and Mecolett Bradley led the Gold Nuggets to a 6-1 victory in the first game. The Lady Bulldogs won the other game 6-4.

XULA (18-27 overall, 10-18 RRAC) will stay on the road and play the host — top-seeded and NAIA No. 2 Our Lady of the Lake — at 10 a.m. CDT Thursday in the opening round of the eight-team, double-elimination event.

The Gold Nuggets would have been the No. 7 seed had they swept Jarvis Christian. Instead the Lady Bulldogs (24-22, 10-16) earned that position.

Robles, the winning pitcher in game one, allowed zero runs the first six innings. Bradley had three RBIs.

Kadence Means singled home Alexis Richardson and Madison Winston in the first inning of the second game, but Jarvis Christian tied the score in the bottom of that inning, then scored once in the third to take the lead for good.

Mekayla Marshall and Yasmin Harmon had pinch-hit RBI singles for XULA in the sixth and seventh inning, respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs’ victory snapped XULA’s season-best three-game win streak. XULA clinched an RRAC Tournament spot Saturday with its home doubleheader sweep of Texas College.
