Girls Soccer Playoffs: SSA blanks St. Joseph’s to reach semifinals; 10 area teams in action Monday

Girls Prep Playoff Soccer Report for Sun., Feb. 10

Defending Division I girls state soccer champion St. Scholastica is one step closer to realizing its goal of repeating in 2019.

The No. 2 Doves shutout No. 7 St. Joseph’s Academy 4-0 at Hunter Stadium in Covington Saturday evening.

Sydney Vincens and Isaballa Pflug each scored a pair of goals to pace the Doves to victory.

Vincens scored first before Isabelle Pflug added a pair of first half goals to give SSA a convincing 3-0 lead at halftime. Vincens added her second goal in the second half to complete the scoring. The Redstickers (12-6-3) never really threatened.

St. Scholastica (17-0-3) moves on to the semifinals to take on the winner of Monday’s match between No. 6 Dominican and No. 3 Mandeville at Mandeville at 6 pm.

Also Monday in Division I, No. 8 Northshore travels to Shreveport to battle No. 1 Byrd at 5:30 pm.

In Division II action Monday, No. 5 Central Lafourche is at No. 4 Destrehan at 6 pm. The two district rivals tied twice in the regular season. Also in Division II Monday, No. 2 Lakeshore is at No. 10 Live Oak at 6 pm.

In Division III action Monday, No. 4 Archbishop Hannan entertains No. 5 E.D. White Catholic at 5:30 pm.

In Division IV Monday, No. 8 Newman plays at top-seeded Loyola Prep at 6 pm while No. 13 Pope John Paul II treks to No. 12 Northlake Christian at 6:30 pm. The two district rivals tied 2-2 in Slidell on Jan. 15.

Third seed McGehee travels to No. 11 Ascension Episcopal at 5:30 pm Monday.
