Girls Soccer Playoffs: Northshore, Dominican, SSA, Destrehan, Hannan, Newman, PJP, McGehee advance to quarterfinals

In Division I, it is clear that Northshore has caught to and surpassed traditional power Mount Carmel Academy.

The eighth-seeded Lady Panthers defeated the ninth-seeded Cubs for the third straight time, winning easily in a 6-1 romp at Slidell in the Regional round of the state playoffs Wednesday.

Northshore (16-4-2) dominated from the start, taking a 4-0 lead into halftime. Britney Bertram recorded a hat trick, including a pair of first half goals and one in the second half. Brooke Cutura scored a goal in the first half and another in the second half. Jordan Grigsby added a goal for the Lady Panthers. Amelie Hebert scored the lone goal for Mount Carmel (13-4-11) in the second half.

Northshore advances to the quarterfinals to take on No. 1 Byrd, who edged No. 16 Fontainebleau 1-0.

The Yellow Jackets (16-1-3) and Bulldogs (8-6-2) played to a scoreless tie in regulation. In the first overtime period, Ellis Bryan scored the game-winner on an assist from Landry Jones.

No. 6 Dominican advanced to the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over No. 11 Baton Rouge at Pan American Stadium. Dominican (19-4-5) advances to travel to third seed Mandeville in the quarterfinals.


Defending state champion and No. 2 St. Scholastica shutout No. 15 Sulphur 3-0.

Sydney Vincens, Sarah Lombas and Olivia Loukatos each scored a goal for the Doves (18-0-3). SSA advances to the quarterfinals to host No. 7 St. Joseph’s Academy.

In Division II, No. 4 Destrehan handled No. 20 Lee Magnet 6-1. The Wildcats move on to the round of eight to host fifth seed Central Lafourche.

In Division III, fourth-seeded Archbishop Hannan rolled over No. 13 Cecilia 5-0. The Hawks move on to host No. 5 St. Louis Catholic in the quarterfinals.

In Division IV, No. 8 Newman handled No. 9 St. Charles Catholic 6-1.

Tori Thomas had a hat trick for the Greenies (12-6-1) while Grace Payne had a goal and an assist. Charlotte Williams and Brie Reginelli each added a goal for Newman. The Greenies advance to play at top-seeded Loyola Prep in the quarterfinals.

No. 13 Pope John Paul II went on the road and won at No. 12 Houma Christian 3-2 in a match that went to a shootout.

In the penalty kick phase, the Lady Jaguars won 4-3 to advance. Pope John Paul II (12-6-3) advances to the quarterfinals to take on rival and 12th seed Northlake Christian at Covington.

No. 3 McGehee downed No. 14 Country Day 3-1. The Hawks advance to the quarterfinals to play at 11th-seeded Ascension Episcopal.
