Girls Bowling: Academy of Our Lady, Kenner Discovery open with wins
Two-time state champion Academy of Our Lady missed the playoffs in 2021, but began its quest to return to the postseason Monday with a 21-6 victory over Mount Carmel at Westside Lanes in Harvey.
AOL, the 2018 and 2019 state champs, was led by a 211 final game and a 559 series by Laney Sasso, who returns to the anchor position in 2022. The Penguins won six of eight points in each of the three games and the three-point bonus for total pins.
Sasso and Mount Carmel’s Taylor Hunn – the top two returning average bowlers in the metro area this season – staged a strong battle at the No. 6 position, with Hunn rolling a 562 series and capturing two of the three individual points.
Skylar Alexander had a 474 series for the Penguins, while Valeska Mora rolled a 418 for the Cubs.
Kenner Discovery 24, Patrick Taylor 3: The Swamp Owls opened their season with a victory over the Tigers, who are fielding a girls team for the first time in 2022, at AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner.
Karley Anderson had a 156 final game to cap a 415 series to lead Kenner Discovery. Hailey White’s 116 final game paced Patrick Taylor.
