Girls Basketball Playoffs: Warren Easton advances to final, KIPP-BTW and Ursuline eliminated in Alexandria

Warren Easton is poised to defend its Class 4A state championship Friday evening.

The second-seeded Eagles saw to that with a solid 53-39 victory over No. 3 Minden Tuesday evening at Rapides Coliseum in Alexandria.

The Eagles took a 12-6 lead after one quarter and led 25-15 by halftime. It was 41-25 after three quarters.

Casey Harris led Warren Easton (27-5) with 16 points while Cabria Lewis had 12 points. The Eagles got a boost with the return of Kiana Anderson. The Arkansas-Little Rock signee played in her first game of the season after tearing her ACL in the summer. Anderson had two points and eight rebounds.

Derrica Gilbert led Minden (29-3) with 15 points while Bre Rogers had 12 points.

Warren Easton advances to the championship game Friday at 8 p.m. against top seed Minden, who edged No. 5 Ellender 47-46.

In Class 1A, No. 3 Elton edged No. 2 KIPP-B.T. Washington 38-34.

In a back and forth contest, the Lions led 12-10 after one quarter and it was tied 15-15 at halftime. It was 26-26 after three quarters.

Vici Woods led the Indians (26-3) with 17 points while Jamaica James added 10 points. Imani Rothschild topped the Lions (18-11) with 11 points while Kassie Dolliole finished with nine points.

Elton advances to the state championship game against No. 4 Delhi Friday at 6 p.m.

In Division II, there will be a new state champion as top seed Lee Magnet dismissed defending champion and fourth seed Ursuline Academy 79-61.

The Patriots seized control in the first quarter and the 27-8 lead they built was too much to overcome. Lee led 38-25 by halftime. It was 59-37 after three quarter.

D. Hunter led the Patriots (35-2) with 27 points while A. Lagarde had 20 points. I. Hatch finished with 12 points. K. Nelson topped the Lions (21-9) with 23 points, T. Williams had 15 and K. Jackson finished with 13 points.

Lee Magnet advances to the Division II state championship game Friday at 2 p.m. against No. 2 seed St. Louis Catholic.

The Saints won an 87-86 overtime thriller over No. 3 University High.

Today, the Division IV semifinals feature four area teams squaring off with a chance to reach the title game.

Defending state champion and third seed St. Katharine Drexel battles No. 2 Northlake Christian at 11:30 a.m. before No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas faces No. 5 Country Day at 1:15 p.m.

In Class 3A, defending state champion and top seed Loranger faces No. 4 Northwest at 6:15 p.m., followed by No. 3 Albany against Madison Prep at 8 p.m.
