Girls Basketball Playoffs: Area teams seek to punch Final Four tickets tonight
In the LHSAA girls prep basketball playoffs this evening, there are 17 area teams seeking Final Four berths.
In Class 5A, unbeaten top seed Ponchatoula (30-0) plays host to No. 8 Hahnville (18-3) at 6 p.m.
In 4A, perennial power and fourth seed Warren Easton (17-7) battles No. 5 Karr (17-6) at 6 p.m. at McDonogh 35 in a game that you can watch live at CrescentCitySports.com.
Warren Easton concluded the regular season with a 62-40 home victory over Karr.
The Eagles won 4A state titles in 2015, 2018 and 2019 and reached the final in 2014 and 2020.
In 3A, No. 9 Loranger (11-6) travels to No. 1 Madison Prep (17-6) at 6 p.m.
No. 12 Donaldsonville (14-8) is at No. 4 Brusly (27-9) at 7 p.m. The Panthers defeated Donaldsonville 60-27 on Dec. 30.
No. 2 Albany (21-5) is at home against Northwest (10-7) at 6 p.m.
In 2A, defending state champion and top seed Doyle (25-4) hosts No. 9 Rayville (16-9) at 6 p.m. at Doyle Elementary.
Second-seeded Amite (24-2) is home to No. 7 Rosepine (26-6) at 6 p.m.
No. 11 Springfield (17-9) plays at No. 3 Lake Arthur (28-4) at 6 p.m.
In Division I, top-seeded Mount Carmel Academy (21-5) entertains No. 8 Byrd (4-15) at 5 p.m.
Wednesday night, No. 4 Scotlandville ousted No. 5 St. Joseph’s Academy 62-43 to reach the semifinals and will face the winner of Mount Carmel and Byrd.
No. 3 Dominican (18-6) plays host to No. 6 McKinley (8-7) at 6:30 p.m.
In Division II, No. 5 Ben Franklin (18-6) plays at No. 4 St. Thomas More (24-3) at 6 p.m.
In Division III, District 11-3A rivals will collide as No. 2 Ursuline Academy (19-6) plays host to No. 7 De La Salle (14-6) at 6 p.m.
Ursuline downed De La Salle 52-38 on Feb. 11 at home.
In Division IV, District 9-1A rivals square off again as No. 5 Riverside Academy (13-6) travels to No. 4 St. Martin’s Episcopal (11-6) at 6 p.m. The Rebels and Saints split a pair of district contests in the regular season, with each team winning on the opponent’s home floor.
