Giants to retire Will Clark’s number
New Orleans native Will Clark was one of the best first basemen of his generation. Now the team with which he started his MLB career will give him one of the greatest honors in sports.
The San Francisco Giants will retire Clark’s jersey No. 22. The announcement was made Sunday as the team honored the 1989 San Francisco squad that reached the World Series. The Jesuit High alum was named the MVP of the National League Championship Series in which the Giants defeated the Cubs four games to one.
In eight years with San Francisco, Clark was a five-time All-Star and finished in the top five in MVP voting four times.
Clark played in the majors from 1986 to 2000 and hit .303 during his career with the Giants, Rangers, Orioles and Cardinals.
