George Benoit named new head wrestling coach at Holy Cross

Holy Cross School announces George Benoit ’15 as the new head wrestling coach on Monday afternoon. Benoit spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant. In his first campaign as an assistant coach, Benoit helped coach the Tigers to a Runner-Up finish at the Division I LHSAA Wrestling State Tournament.

“As an alum, I am proud to be allowed to give back to the school that gave so much to me, said Benoit. “The goal of this team is to find out how good we can be. I am excited to coach and watch these young men grow to accomplish their goals on and off the mat.”

George BenoitBenoit competed for four years with the Tigers and helped capture the Division II team title in 2013. Individually, he was a four-time state finalist capturing the Division I State Championship his senior year at 152 lbs. For his accomplishments in college, Benoit was a team member of the Grand View University Wrestling team and their five consecutive NAIA National Championships from 2016-2020.

Benoit, a native of Metairie, La., earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English from Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. He is currently pursuing his Master’s in Criminal Justice at Loyola University New Orleans.
