Kansas City, Mo. – For the first time in program history, the LSUA women’s basketball team will see its season extend into the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship Tournament as the Generals were awarded an at-large berth into the 32-team field the NAIA office announced Wednesday.

The Generals, who received votes in the final NAIA Top 25 Poll that was also released on Wednesday, found out they were tagged as the seven seed in the tournament’s Naismith Bracket and matched up against the Golden State Athletic Conference champions, the #8-ranked and Naismith Bracket two seed Westmont Warriors out of Santa Barbara, California.

“This is such a big step in the continuing growth of our program,” said LSUA head coach Bob Austin. “Making the National Championship Tournament is a goal you strive for every year, and this is perhaps one of the biggest accomplishments we’ve achieved in a year full of them. Getting to perform on the national tournament stage will certainly be a big learning experience for our team, and one I believe we’ll thrive in.”

LSUA (21-7, 14-4 RRAC) finished the regular season with a program record for wins and qualified for the RRAC Tournament semifinals for the second straight season. The Generals’ first round game against the Warriors (24-7, 14-4 GSAC) is set for Wednesday, March 13th at Noon MDT, 1:00 P.M. CDT at the Rimrock Auto Arena in Billings, Montana.
