RUSTON – After helping the Louisiana Tech women’s soccer team pull off a road sweep, senior Monica Gebler was selected as the Conference USA Player of the Week in an announcement made by the league office on Monday.

Gebler played 170 of the 180 minutes in the two wins at Middle Tennessee and at UAB which gave LA Tech enough points to guarantee itself a spot in the C-USA Tournament for a fourth straight season.

The Albuquerque, N.M. native was part of a defense that shutout the Blue Raiders in the second half, paving way for a two-goal, come-from-behind victory.

Three days later, the match with the Blazers was scoreless until the 66th minute when Gebler sent a perfect cross into the six to Jenna Dages for the game-winning header goal. It marked the first time this season UAB lost at home and was just the second time being shutout.

This is Gebler’s first C-USA Player of the Week honor of her career.

She will be one of nine seniors recognized on Senior Night in the regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 27 versus Southern Miss. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
