NEW ORLEANS – The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) increased the size of its staff for the 2022-23 year with the additions of Dajia Williams and Alex Williams, who will serve as the league’s administrative coordinator and digital marketing coordinator, respectively.

“As the league continues to grow over the coming years, we are also committed to growing the staff in the league office to assist with us giving our institutions the best resources possible,” said GCAC Commissioner Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes. “We are excited to have Daija and Alex joining our team, in key roles that will be of tremendous help to all of us at the conference office.”

Dajia is a 2022 graduate of the University of New Orleans, earning her bachelor’s degree in health promotion and human performance, with a concentration in exercise physiology. During her final year at UNO, she worked in the Privateers’ Athletic Department, working at various athletic events while also working on internal projects for the department.

“I’m looking forward to working under Commissioner Barnes and seeing how a league operates from the inside,” Dajia said. “The experience working for the GCAC will be invaluable and will allow me to get experience that I would not have gotten elsewhere.”

Alex is a 2022 graduate of the Cathy Hughes School of Communications at Howard University, earning her degree in broadcast journalism, with a minor in sports administration. Alex interned with a host of high-profile outlets, including NBC Sports Washington, and ESPN, and finished her collegiate career working inside the Bison’s athletic department.

“I’ve always had the dream of working in sports and having the opportunity to work with the GCAC right out of college is an opportunity I could not pass up,” Alex said. “I’m looking forward to learning more about how conferences operate, while gaining valuable experience for the next steps of my career.”

Dajia’s responsibilities will be to manage the calendar of the commissioner and the league, contribute to the written correspondence of all league meetings and reports and assist at all league championships.

Alex will assist with overseeing the league’s presence on all of its social media channels, while also contributing to the conference’s strategy to grow the league’s visibility online. She will also assist the league SID with any marketing needs or requests, while also assisting at the league championships.
