Sean Payton has helped guide the greatest era of success in Saints franchise history since becoming head coach in New Orleans back in 2006.

However, the man who led New Orleans to their only Super Bowl title may have other plans for his immediate future.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Payton has not yet committed to his future with the team. On Monday, Saints owner Gayle Benson admitted Monday that she does not know Payton’s plans moving forward currently.

“We don’t know, you know. Who knows? We’ll find out soon enough, I guess. I don’t think any of us know, but he’ll let us know soon,” said Benson when asked by Sean Fazende of FOX 8.

Rapoport said Payton, who recently was on vacation, has not responded to inquiries about his future intentions. However, sources said it is “highly unlikely for Payton to coach another team in 2022” while becoming a TV commentator could be a viable option. Payton’s current Saints contract has three years remaining.

The 58-year old Payton has compiled a 158-89 regular season record (.631) with a 9-8 postseason mark with New Orleans over 15 seasons.
