Gayle Benson

New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson, former LSU star Marlon Favorite, Tulane wide receivers coach Jeff Conway and John Curtis Christian head football coach J.T. Curtis are the featured speakers at the weekly meeting of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Quarterback Club on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Rock ‘n’ Bowl, 3016 South Carrollton Avenue in New Orleans.

Under the guidance of Tom and Gayle Benson, the Saints won a Super Bowl championship in 2010 and have reached the playoffs 10 times. The Benson family has been a leader in the community, giving millions to charitable foundations and helping stimulate business in the Central Business district of New Orleans. Aside from helping keep the Saints in New Orleans in 1985 with the purchase of the team from John Mecom, the Benson family helped keep the NBA team here in 2012, buying the New Orleans Hornets, now the New Orleans Pelicans.

Favorite starred at West Jefferson High School under Hank Tierney, recording 20 sacks as a junior. As a senior in 2003, Favorite was a first-team all-state selection and played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was named first-team All-American by USA Today and ESPN.com rated him as its top defensive tackle prospect. At LSU, Favorite played from 2005-2008 and was part of a national championship team. Favorite spent time with 11 NFL teams, including the New Orleans Saints and played for the Arena League New Orleans VooDoo. He now works as an analyst on the LSU Radio Network.

In his second season as wide receivers coach at Tulane, Conway has been part of staffs that went to five bowl games and have won five conference championships in his coaching career. Conway has worked with Willie Fritz dating back to 1984, when both were in their first stints at Sam Houston State. Conway also worked with Fritz at Central Missouri and Blinn Jr. College.

In his 49th year as the head coach at John Curtis Christian, J.T. Curtis has posted the second most wins in United States history in prep football with 564 and has captured 26 state titles on the field. He was inducted into the National Federation of High School Associations Hall of Fame in 2015. He earned National Coach of the Year honors in 2006 and 2012.

Speakers from the New Orleans Saints, LSU, Tulane and Prep football will address the audience weekly, along with special guest speakers from the sports world locally and nationally.

A local high school player of the week is chosen throughout the season with a metro prep player of the year announced at the end of the season, sponsored by the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Lunch is served weekly every Tuesday.

In addition, Chevron sponsors student-athletes of the week each week, who receive plaques and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom.

Annual standard membership is $50. Luncheons are $20 per person for members and $25 per person for non-members for the 16 week schedule (Aug. 29-Dec. 12). Click here to buy luncheon tickets online.
