A simply outstanding summer for Jesuit-based Retif Oil ended Monday in Gonzales as Gauthier Amedee won the American Legion State Championship with an 11-1 victory in a game shortened to six innings by the mercy rule.

Gauthier Amedee put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end it.

University of Louisiana commit Lee Amadee of St. Amant belted a three-run homer for Gauthier Amedee, LSU-Eunice commit Tanner Vadnais of Dutchtown had three hits, including a double and three RBI and Jacob Dunn of Baton Rouge Community College had two hits and two RBI.

Nicholls State commit Jacob Mayers of St. Amant pitched into the sixth inning, going five innings, allowing a run on three hits with 11 strikeouts to pick up the win before Nicholls State commit Cole Poirrier of St. Amant came on to pitch out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth inning and escaping unscathed.

Retif Oil (17-3) took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning on a single by Everett Denny and an RBI double by Alex Jeansonne. William Good had the only other hit for Retif.

Bryce Pitts started and took the loss for Retif Oil, going five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. Scout Hughes relieved Pitts and yielded the final five runs on four hits.
