Johnson headlines list by earning Second Team honors

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University football players Patrick Johnson, Corey Dublin, P.J. Hall and Thakarius Keyes were honored by the American Athletic Conference on Wednesday, as the league announced its postseason All-Conference teams.

Tulane has now had four players earn all-conference recognition for three straight seasons. The four all-conference honorees ties for the most since the Green Wave joined The American.

Johnson headlined the list of Tulane honorees, as he was named All-AAC Second Team for the second straight year. As a junior in 2019, the Chattanooga, Tennessee native led the team in sacks for the second consecutive year. He also finished second on the team in tackles for loss, while starting in all 12 games.

Johnson becomes the fifth Tulane student-athlete to earn All-AAC conference recognition in multiple years, joining former Tulane players Parry Nickerson, Nico Marley, Tanzel Smart and Donnie Lewis Jr.

Dublin was named to the AAC Honor Roll following a 2019 campaign where he helped paved the way for Tulane to rush for 249.8 yards per game. The New Orleans native also has proven himself to be a durable player throughout his collegiate career, having started in 37 straight games.

Hall earned AAC Honor Roll recognition after he finished his senior year by starting in every game and posted a single season career-high of 63 tackles, which ranked second on the team.

The Hoover, Alabama native also tallied a pair of interceptions and had a team-best seven pass breakups in 2019. Known for leadership both on and off the field, Hall was selected as one of five team captains this season.

Hall’s postseason honor marks the second time this year he has been honored by the league office. Earlier this year, Hall picked up AAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after he tallied five tackles, one tackle for loss and forced one fumble in the Green Wave’s bowl-clinching victory at home over Tulsa.

Keyes was selected to the AAC honor roll after he posted single-season career high with 47 tackles. His 47 stops ranked second on the team. His five pass breakups also ranked second on the team. He also started in every game at corner.

Tulane will return to action after its bowl destination has been decided. The Green Wave will learn their bowl destination on Dec. 8.
