Four-run 8th pushes Jaguars past Privateers, 5-0

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (4-4) hung in until the eighth inning when they allowed four runs in a 5-0 loss to the South Alabama Jaguars (5-3) on Wednesday evening at Maestri Field.

The Privateers held the game scoreless until the Jaguars broke the ice with an Alden Davis RBI double with one out.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
New Orleans’ first six pitchers combined to keep the Jaguars off the scoreboard in the first seven innings. Jacob Lamkin (2.2) and Caleb Seroski (2.0) both threw multiple innings of relief. Beau Blanchard got around a bases loaded two-out jam in the first inning and the Privateers stranded 10 Jaguar hitters through the first seven innings.

Salo Iza hit a leadoff double in the fourth inning and Darren Willis connected on a one-out single in the sixth.

GAME FLOW
The Jaguars had four hits and took advantage of three Privateer errors in the final two frames. On the mound, Miles Smith set the tone for the road side with 5.1 scoreless innings. Jackson Boyd followed and after getting around a two-on, one-out spot, he finished the game with eight strikeouts over the final 3.2 innings.

DECISIONS
Boyd picked up the win for his first decision of the season. The loss went to Haden Erbe.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will take on Bradley to start a three- game series on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Maestri Field and the game will be carried on NASH Icon 106.1 FM.
