Jake Rogers

Jake Rogers has been called up by the Detroit Tigers to make his Major League debut.

The former Tulane catcher will join Detroit for its Tuesday game against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim.

The 24-year-old Rogers, who was traded by the Houston Astros to the Tigers with other prospects for Justin Verlander in August 2017, was hitting .250 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs this season between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. It is primarily Rogers’ defensive skills that have allowed him to advance quickly through the minors.

Rogers played for the Green Wave from 2014 to 2016 before Houston selected him in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
