Former Saints safety Russell Gary dead at 59
Former New Orleans Saints safety Russell Gary has died at the age of 59.
According to the Lincoln Star Journal, Gary suffered an apparent heart attack in St. Paul, Minnesota.
A second round draft choice (29th overall) of the Saints in 1981 out of Nebraska, Gary played six seasons for New Orleans, appearing in 62 games including 58 starts at strong safety.
Gary recorded seven interceptions, had four fumble recoveries and three sacks with the Saints. He was named first team All-NFC in 1983 by United Press International. Gary finished his career with the Eagles in 1987.
