Former New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins has agreed to a two-year deal with the New York Jets, multiple sources reported Sunday.

Rankins, a former Saints first-round pick who turns 27 on April 2, can earn as much as $17 million over the two years of the contract, reports ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

The 6-foot-2, 305-pounder taken 12th overall in 2016 was an emerging star by 2018. After making eight sacks and 40 tackles while starting all 16 games, he tore his Achilles in the playoffs. The Jets are banking on his returning to a starting level performer at full health while the Saints lacked the cap room to retain Rankins.
