Former Baylor shortstop Jack Pineda announces transfer to LSU

LSU has added a talented middle infielder from the transfer portal.

Jack Pineda, a former Baylor shortstop and second baseman, announced his decision to join the Tigers on social media Monday:

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Pineda has been a starter the past two seasons for the Bears. He took over duties at shortstop midway through the 2021 season. He earned honorable mention All-Big XII the past two years.

The Albuquerque, New Mexico native his .300 this past season, leading Baylor in hits, doubles and triples. He was third on the team with seven homers. Pineda hit a key home run against LSU in a Baylor victory at the Shriners Children’s College Classic in Houston this season, earnign a spot ont he All-Tournament Team.

Pineda played in 2019 and 2022 at College of Southern Nevada.

LSU struggled defensively in 2022. Starting shortstop Jordan Thompson will face stiff competition from Pineda, a sure-handed fielder, at the position.

The commitment of Pineda marks the second significant transfers to date this offseason for LSU. Earlier this month, Creighton ace right-hander Dylan Tebrake, a two-time Big East Pitcher of the Year, announced his plans to join the Tigers.
