One of the River Parishes’ top coaches, Robert Valdez of St. James High, confirmed that he has submitted his resignation to the school, reported Robin Fambrough of the The Advocate.

Valdez did not comment to Fambrough on rumors Wednesday that he will be joining Hue Jackson’s coaching staff at Grambling.

Previously head coach of McKinley, West St. John and Scotlandville, Valdez became head coach at St. James in 2016. He coached the Wildcats a perfect 15-0 campaign and the Class 3A title in 2019. At West St. John, he led the Rams to three state semifinals and a Class 2A runner-up finish in 2011.

The O. Perry Walker alum has been a high school football coach since 2005. Valdez was also the Dean of Students at St. James.
