Fontainebleau, Brother Martin, Rummel win Thursday in WGNO Classic

Fontainebleau got off to a good start in the WGNO Baseball Classic with a dramatic come-from-behind 7-5 win over Brother Martin at Wesley Barrow Stadium/RBI Field.

Trailing 5-0 going into their last at-bat, the Bulldogs scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the improbable victory.

Blake Marshall and Michael Malbrough each drove in a pair of runs while Sam Marr, Nick Grayson and Casner Jablonski each had an RBI in the big rally. Marr and Grayson each had a pair of hits to pace a seven-hit attack for Fontainebleau (1-0).

Joe Delaney and Brendan Brown each had a pair of hits and two RBI for the Crusaders (0-1) while Zach Repath added a pair of hits in a nine-hit attack.

Dillon Todd picked up the win in relief for the Bulldogs, pitching a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. Will Kinzler started for Fontainebleau, going four and two-third innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Preston Canale and Logan Goodreau followed him to the mound, prior to Todd pitching the final frame.

Cole Stromboe took the loss for Brother Martin. Brennan Stuprich pitched six shutout innings before giving up three runs in the seventh inning. Collin Ardon relieved Stuprich before Stromboe finished up for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders picked up a win in the nightcap at RBI Field, defeating Franklinton 3-1.

Brandon Bonura was superb on the mound, pitching a complete game one-hitter, yielding a single to Wyatt Verret. Bonura walked three and struck out four, using just 82 pitches. Jared Jenkins took the loss for the Demons (0-2) , allowing two runs on four hits in five innings pitched. Bradlee Davidson finished up on the mound for the Franklinton, allowing an unearned run. Each team had a pair of errors.

Joe Delaney doubled and drove in a run for the Crusaders (1-1) while Brendan Brown had a hit and an RBI and stole three bases. Brother Martin stole six bases overall, including two by Caden Nash.

Both teams return to action in the tournament this evening with Brother Martin taking on West Ouachita at 4:30 p.m. before Fontainebleau takes on West Ouachita at 7 p.m. with both games set for Wesley Barrow Stadium/RBI Field.

At Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, Archbishop Rummel fought off Ponchatoula 5-3.

Stephen Powers picked up the victory for the Raiders (2-0) while Pat Meehan picked up the save and had a pair of hits. Lane LeBlanc had a pair of hits and an RBI while Chandler Fields had a hit and an RBI for Rummel.

The Raiders will face Franklinton this afternoon at 5 p.m. at Mike Miley Stadium while the Green Wave (2-1) battle Ruston at 7 p.m. at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
