Flynn’s Top-10 finish leads Cajuns at Graeme McDowell Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Charlie Flynn fired a 1-under-par 71 to record his first career top-10 finish and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Golf team produced a team score of 1-over 289 to finish sixth overall at the Graeme McDowell Invitational on Wednesday on the Founders Course at Greystone Golf and Country Club.

Hudson Dubinski and Hunter Hammett each posted top-20 finishes in the 54-hole event as Louisiana finished with a 54-hole total of 3-over 867 and finishing three shots behind fifth-place Coastal Carolina.

Flynn, whose previous best finish was a 20th-place performance at the 2019 Old Waverly Collegiate Championship, posted a three-round total of 1-under 215 to finish in a tie for ninth-place for the Ragin’ Cajuns. The sophomore, who was making his 2020-21 debut, made the turn at 2-over 38 for Louisiana before posting birdies at No. 1 and No. 2 with a third birdie coming at the par-5, 623-yard No. 5.

Dubinski and Hammett, also making their 2020-21 debut, each finished in a tie for 20th-place at 2-over 218. Dubinski posted an even-par 72 in the final round on the 7,299-yard course with Hammett finishing with a 1-over 73.

Peter Hinnant carded a final round score of 2-over 74 to finish at 3-over 219 for the tournament with Bjorn Gudjonsson finishing 227 and redshirt freshman Matt Weber at 237.

Host UAB captured its third team championship in the fall season after recording a final round score of 4-unde 284 to finish at 853 overall. The Blazers finished five shots ahead of first-day leader Georgia Southern (858) with ULM (861), Middle Tennessee (863) and Coastal Carolina (864) rounding out the top five.

Louisiana finished 16 shots ahead of South Alabama (883) and Augusta (883) with Troy finishing at 884 and Southern Miss at 899.

ULM’s Guillaume Fanonnel recorded a 5-under 67 in the final round to claim the individual title by four shots over first-day leader Mason Williams of Georgia Southern. Fanonnel finished the 54-hole event at 10-under 206 with Williams at 210.

Louisiana will wrap up the fall portion of its 2020-21 schedule on Oct. 12-13 at the Intercollegiate at The Grove, hosted by Middle Tennessee. The 54-hole event will be held at the Grove Club in College Grove, Tenn.
