First Tee introduces Backyard Links distance learning youth development program
New Orleans – First Tee Greater New Orleans has launched its Backyard Links program, an online resource for parents, kids and families, featuring golf-themed activities, games and interactive features focused on First Tee’s life skills experience curriculum. The Backyard Links activities are designed for kids to follow at home and focus on concepts including the First Tee Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits.
Please view the sample video lesson below and for more information about Backyard Links, visit www.firstteenola.org/programs/backyard-links.
Backyard Links registration is open to any youth, ages 5-18, at no cost on First Tee Greater New Orleans’ website at www.firstteenola.org/register. The activities and resources are also being shared on First Tee Greater New Orleans’ social media platforms (Facebook Instagram & Twitter).
The program, which began on April 13 and will continue through May, will be updated for parents and participants in Google Classroom with new activities and games each week. The program’s goal is to help keep the minds and bodies of local kids active at home.
Participants in Backyard Links have the opportunity to engage and learn through instructional videos covering a variety of topics, playing interactive games that will help participants have a better understanding of the weeks core lesson, taking quizzes to test their knowledge and preparing videos of their own to show how they are applying the core lessons. Participants are also encouraged to share their accomplishments on social media by tagging @FirstTeeNOLA and using the hashtag #GolfAtHome.
“The First Tee core values are even more important right now and remain a key focus of our Backyard Links outreach to children during times of challenge and uncertainty,” said Chip Patterson, executive director at First Tee Greater New Orleans. “Our staff and coaches have worked diligently to reimagine the ways in which we connect with kids, and we’re continuing to share positive traits with young people through the game of golf. Whether shared virtually or in-person, these traits continue to teach our kids to become better people and help them live their healthiest, most fulfilling lives.”
