Ex-Pelicans guard JJ Redick announced retirement from NBA

Former Pelicans guard JJ Redick announced his retirement Tuesday via social media.

The former Duke standout signed with New Orleans in 2019, and the Pelicans sent Redick and forward Nicolo Melli to Dallas for forwards James Johnson and Wes Iwundu as well as a 2021 second-round pick at the NBA trade deadline this past season.

Never an all-star, the 6-foot-4 Redick played for six teams including the Pelicans from 2019-21. He reached one NBA Finals with in 2008 with Orlando, the team that drafted him in the 2006 first round after he was the consensus national college player of the year.

Redick, 37, spent 15 seasons in the league as one of the game’s best sharpshooters. He made 41.5% of his career regular season three-point attempts.

With New Orleans, Redick played 91 games and averaged 13.0 points on 43% from behind the arc.
