To no one’s surprise, powerful Evangel Christian, with a host of returning starters from a Division I state championship team, is the top-ranked team in the class in the CrescentCitySports.com rankings heading into the regular season.

John Curtis Christian, seeking to end a three-year state title drought, is second in the state’s top class while defending Class 5A state champion Landry-Walker is third. West Monroe is fourth after a very impressive jamboree win over Neville. High-flying Archbishop Rummel is fifth off of a very impressive jamboree win on the road at St. Paul’s

In Class 4A, defending state champion Karr is the top-ranked team with Neville still second. Warren Easton is third with McDonogh 35 fourth and St. Thomas More fifth. Three of the four teams are from the New Orleans area.

In Class 3A, University High is the top-ranked team, coming off of a really good jamboree win over powerful Parkview Baptist. De La Salle is a close second after the Cavaliers were extremely impressive in whipping a good 5A team in Ponchatoula in jamboree play. St. Charles Catholic is a strong third with West Feliciana fourth and St. James fifth.

In Class 2A, defending Division III Riverside is a resounding No. 1 after an awesome 28-0 jamboree win at a good 5A team in Mandeville. Amite is second after finishing second in 3A a year ago. Notre Dame is third with Many fourth and Calvary Baptist fifth.

In 1A, Haynesville is the top-ranked team, a year after the Golden Tornado earned the top-seed and lost to Logansport in the championship game. Kentwood, with a slew of talented athletes, is second with Logansport a very close third. Ouachita Christian is fourth with West St. John fifth.
