Eppler named to CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy Watch List
NATCHITOCHES – Quarterback Shelton Eppler’s 2018 season placed him among the nation’s FCS leaders in a number of passing categories.
It also squarely put him on the radar of the national media as Tuesday morning, Eppler was named to the College Football Performance Awards FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy Watch List.
A senior from Navasota, Texas, and Trinity Valley Community College, Eppler threw for 2,639 yards and 26 touchdowns in nine games a season ago. His touchdown total ranked second in school single-season history while his passing yardage stands third among Demons’ single-season marks.
His 293.2 passing yards per game ranked him sixth nationally and set a school record in that category while his 148.3 passer rating stood 11th among all FCS passers. His passing yardage total fell just 182 yards shy of Zach Adkins’ school mark set in 2014 while his 26 touchdown passes gave him another No. 11 national ranking.
Eppler is one of four Southland Conference quarterbacks on the initial 40-player list. He is joined by his SLC peers Luke Anthony (Abilene Christian), Jon Copeland (Incarnate Word), and Chase Fourcade (Nicholls).
The CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy winner will be announced Jan. 15. Eppler and the Demons open their 2019 season Aug. 29 at UT Martin in a 6:30 p.m. kickoff that can be seen on ESPNPlus.
