NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University Baseball team (25-14-1) dropped the second game of the ECU series on Saturday afternoon inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

The Wave’s pitching staff struggled to hold off the Pirates batters, allowing 11 hits on the day.

Chandler Welch made his way to the mound first for Tulane going four innings, giving up six runs on seven hits and totaling four strikeouts.

The Wave had a 2-1 lead after the first frame of the ballgame. ECU knocked a homer out of the right side only to be one-upped by Luis Aviles and Jackson Linn who hit back-to-back bell ringers in the bottom of the inning.

ECU wouldn’t let the Wave hold the lead long, as it would score four runs in the top of the third and take a 5-2 lead over Tulane.

Carter Robinson would come in to relieve a struggling Welch in the top of the fifth. The Pirates would drive the third and fourth home runs of the game in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 7-2. ECU would cross home once more in the sixth to bring the score to 8-2.

Both teams would be scoreless through the seventh and eighth innings. In the ninth frame, Tulane would have two runners cross home to bring the final score to 8-3.

The series will be decided tomorrow at noon in Uptown.
